SUMMARY:CERT: Responding to the Disabilities and Access and Functional Needs Community (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:During this presentation\, attendees will learn about how New Jersey has embraced the whole\ncommunity philosophy by engaging people with disabilities and access and functional needs\n(DAFN) in its CERT program. By starting at the municipal level\, these CERTs help improve and\nenhance emergency preparedness and response efforts—from helping individuals with DAFN\ncreate personal preparedness plans to ensuring accessibility is restored following disasters.\nStrategies on how to best involve and serve individuals with DAFN in relation to the CERT\nprogram in other States will be discussed.

SUMMARY:Managing Multiple Volunteer Groups Simultaneously (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:The first day of a major incident can be oh so complicated\, with fingers crossed\, and the hope that it all\nunfolds in an organized way – according to some really good plan out there. Sometimes it does; but\nchaos\, with nobody at fault\, is the norm. After all\, they’re called disasters for a reason.\nThe day of the week and the time of day have a huge influence on how we respond. Whether the\nincident is a surprise\, or was seen coming\, is also big. In this presentation\, we will talk about Incident Command\nand/ or Unified Command in the field – somehow triggering a local government response\, and how\nCERT volunteers\, along with a lot of other organized volunteers\, fit in. We’ll ask a lot of questions and\nwith luck\, we’ll even answer a few.
